"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more
powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy
Spirit and with fire.  His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing
floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable
fire."
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.

 (Matthew 3:11-13 New International Version)

Baptism is a visible way of proclaiming the gospel in our life.  It is an outward sign
of an inward act of God's grace.

Baptism of Teens and Adults

We celebrate the baptism of any and all persons who profess Jesus Christ as Lord.  Just as in the days
of the early church, baptism is a beginning of our Christian journey, not an end.  Baptism is an outward
sign of our new life in Jesus Christ.
Through the sacrament of baptism God declares that He has
adopted us as sons and daughters, making us fellow heirs of His riches
(Galatians 4:4-7, Romans 8:14-17).

For purposes of transfer of membership within and beyond the United Methodist Church, we accept the
baptism of other denominations, affirming the Scriptural truth of Ephesians- 4:4
There is one body and
one Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- one Lord, one faith, one
baptism;  one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Baptism of Infants
The Book of Acts tells us
"a message through which you and all your household will be saved.' (Acts 11:14, 16:15 & 16:31.)

In this context, the entire household was one that acknowledged Jesus as Lord.  In affirming this, the
United Methodist Church celebrates the rite of Christian baptism for infants in keeping with the following
covenant which is made by the parents of the child at the time of baptism:

Do you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him
as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations and races?
(and) Will you nurture this/these child/children in Christ's holy church, that by your teaching and example
they may be guided to accept God's grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a
Christian life?

During the sharing of this covenant, the congregation also promises to live according to the example of
Christ, and surround the child with a community of forgiveness and love, while continuing to regularly pray
for them.

In this context, the church supports and encourages infant baptism and promises to offer itself as a living
and significant example in the life of the child.  It also promises to provide Christian Education and
Confirmation for the child which will assist the child in claiming that act of faith for him or herself.

If you or any of your children wish to become a regular part of our fellowship and community of faith and
desire to be baptized in the Christian faith, please contact Pastor Green.
